The Solution

PureDae is an innovative air filtration and storage system tackling methane and ammonia emissions from barns. It captures methane, preventing its release, and repurposes it as renewable energy, addressing climate change and energy sustainability. PureDae also improves air quality and protects ecosystems by reducing ammonia, representing a transformative step toward cleaner, greener livestock farming practices.

The Problem

Livestock farming intensifies methane and ammonia emissions, contributing to climate change and air pollution. Methane, 25 times more potent than CO2, remains untapped as renewable energy, while ammonia harms ecosystems and health. Innovative systems to reduce emissions and repurpose methane for energy are urgently needed to ensure sustainable agriculture and mitigate environmental and health impacts.

Prototype

Here, you can view the 3D and physical prototype with its technical details:

The PM2.5 sensor is used due to its wide measurement capacity and data analysis, and wind sensors measure the direction and speed of the wind, adjusting machines according to the pollution flow path. Solar panels are used for energy, and to ensure reliability, the system includes mains electricity as a backup, facilitated by a contactor that switches to main power for uninterrupted operation. The filtration unit consists of four filters: the Coarse Filter, a prefilter in the system, the Active Carbon Filter, and the EPA 13 Filter, a high-efficiency particulate air filter capturing ultrafine particles. Bio Filter I’ve designed, filtering the gases, consisting of a laminate composite material made from fibrous support of sponge gourd alternated with sheets of various algae strains, and fungal mycelium. To monitor blockages and potential damage to the filters, pressure probes, are added behind each filter.
